Helios Protocol

Hello again, Helios community members! The past two weeks has been great for Helios Protocol. The team has been hard at work with the Testnet. We have been preparing huge amounts of documentation, setting up more nodes on the network, testing consensus and security, and packaging and publishing our software. These, along with reaching out to community and non-community members alike to join the testing phase, have been the main focus during this time.

Technical Updates

We have been working on a lot of documentation for the software and usage of the network. The documentation for nodes has been a top priority. We have the beta-stage documentation for installing the node, configuring, and running it available on GitHub (https://github.com/Helios-Protocol/py-helios-node).

Usage documentations have also been published on GitHub. Documentation for py-rlp-cython, the c-based, really fast rlp encoding module we created a few months ago, can be found at https://github.com/Helios-Protocol/py-rlp-cython. The documentation for msgpack-rlp-python can be found at https://github.com/Helios-Protocol/msgpack-rlp-python. This is the back-end for py-rlp-cython, and is based on msgpack, which is another ultra-fast encoding/decoding library.

We have also been packaging our software and publishing it on services such as PyPi for Python and npm for JavaScript. This allows for easy installation and usage of our code. For example, you will basically only need to type a single line command, pip install py-helios-node, in order to install the node software. We are doing this for the Helios version of web3 as well.

We are establishing bootnodes that will persist with the same address from the Testnet into the Mainnet. These bootnodes are required for new nodes who have not yet connected to the swarm of nodes. They give the node some location to connect to so that they see which nodes are in the swarm.

More nodes are being set up to test the networking capability of the network. With help from our fantastic community, we have nodes in multiple locations around the world to test the long-range stability of the network. If you would like to participate in the testing phase of the Helios Platform, please fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSclfc6BgPTD_CX4VNuLmw639E1LZOlvNwtC3dXgBLwaElnIuA/viewform

Many new features that will dramatically differentiate Helios from our competitors have also been added. For now, these are being held close to the vest and will be revealed at a later date. STAY TUNED!!!

Non-Technical Updates

We are continuously working with the community to find members who are willing to set up nodes on the Helios Protocol network. We are going to make sure there are a large number of nodes controlled by different entities to ensure maximum decentralization of the network.

We are still running the weekly airdrop on Discord for our active community members! Please come join our discord and meet everyone! There is a weekly airdrop form that can be found in the #weekly-airdrop channel. We also have surprise airdrops that happen often so you don’t want to miss out! You can join our Discord (and any other) below! We look forward to meeting you!
