Helios Protocol Project Update Blog -Dec 23rd Update
Hello Helios community! This piece starts a series of updates taken from our team meetings. As of right now, our team meetings happen bi-weekly but will take place more often as the project continues to develop and grow. Meetings can be viewed on our YouTube page. We will be releasing all future written updates here.
December 23rd, 2018 Tech Update
During the past two weeks the team has been hard at work making significant upgrades to the network. A number of changes were implemented to make existing dAPPs easier to switch over from the Ethereum network to Helios. Node synching and an early wallet design were also focused on during this time plus the Testnet has gone live!
We have ported most of Ethereum’s Web3.js code over to the Helios network. This makes node.js or web-based dAPPs already programmed for Ethereum can move to Helios with no modifications. Web3.js will also make it simple for new dAPPs to be programmed and integrated into the Helios blockchain.
We have refactored and improved the node synching code. This new code enables each node to create a new, temporary shard of the network to accommodate increased transaction volume. This allows the transaction volume that the network can handle to increase linearly with the number of nodes on the network. For example, if there are 100 nodes that can handle 1000 transactions per second, then the network can handle 100,000 transactions per second. The network is designed in a way that all of the shards will eventually sync up again to form a complete single master shard for enhanced security and immutability.
The Helios Testnet is up and running and we have been spending a great deal of time testing the network and eliminating all the bugs that are found. To help with this, we are developing a prototype online-based wallet that will allow our community members to participate in the network testing. Members will be able to assist in the Testnet phase of the project by sending transactions to each other and by deploying and interacting with smart contracts.
December 23rd 2018 Non-tech Update
We had a great time sponsoring the Eagles Rock N Rain in the Fort Knox discord server. Eagles Rock N Rain is just what it sounds like, a fun night of great music and crypto rains ran by two great hosts, Prissy and DJ Eagle. Fort Knox is run by our good friend, @Scotlarock727. Give him a peep at hypedoncrypto.com.
We have added some new team members and with the addition, we have decided to refine the team management structure. This will improve efficiency and give team members more clearly defined roles. If you have skills that you believe could help the project, please contact us on Discord. We’re always looking for great people!
Our Spanish community managers ran a successful Airdrop campaign in which each participant received 100 HLS.
Conclusion
That is it for this week’s updates. Please check back here often for more updates and current information about Helios Protocol! Thank you for being a part of our community 😊
